The dense stretch of early July brings Windy City Smokeout and the return of Taste of Chicago to its summer slot in Grant Park, overlapping with a packed downtown calendar. Then Lollapalooza takes Grant Park from July 30 through August 2, 2026, closing Columbus Drive and reshaping access across the south Loop and lakefront for the better part of a week.
For any of these, downtown pickups need to route around the closures. Book early during that window; it is one of the busiest of the year for ground transportation, and festival footprints shift, so confirm details close to your date.
Convention Season at McCormick Place
McCormick Place anchors Chicago's convention calendar, and the big shows fill the south Loop and the hotel corridor. IMTS, the International Manufacturing Technology Show, returns in September, and RSNA, the radiological society's meeting, closes the year in November. The Chicago Auto Show fills McCormick Place across February.
During these weeks, hotels and vehicles both run tight. Delegations are best served by Sprinter vans that keep groups together, and exhibitors benefit from corporate accounts with priority dispatch. Book convention transfers well ahead.
Sports Across the Year
